CYTOGENETIC ANALYSIS OF A SPONTANEOUS PRE-MEIOTIC MUTATION IN MAIZE
Abstract
Cytogenetk tests of a spontaneous pre-meiotic R
r mutation indicate that it is an autonomous mutation for the R locus. No evidence was found for a factor, other than the R locus, as a causal agent for the mutation. The mutant behaves as a stable r allele. No evidence was found for chromosomal alteration, pollen or transmission sterility. Thus, within the limits of the tests made, it must be called a point mutation.
