LETHAL-POLYPLOIDA POLYPLOID GENE IN DROSOPHILA HYDEI
Abstract
"Lethal-polyploid" (lpl) is an autosomal recessive lethal in Drosophila hydei, not linked with chromosome 2 genes e and p (the only mutants available). In homozygous condition lpl affects mitosis in postembryonic stages mainly by blocking the spindle mechanism, thereby producing polyploid cells in the central nervous system and imaginal rudiments.
