Open-bud cotton—a product of interspecific modifiers?

CLAUDE RHYNE, former research cotton geneticist, ARS, USDA

125 Highland Drive, Americus, GA 31709

Abstract

Plants with open floral buds occurred in the F2 of certain G. hirsutum L. x G. barbadense L. stocks having normal (closed) buds in the ratio of 15 to 1 open bud. Heretofore, open bud has been reported only as a monomeric recessive mutant gene of G. hirsutum with a typical ratio of 3 normal to 1 open bud in the F2.
