Inheritance of lentil seedcoat mottle

V. E. WILSON, research agronomist, SEA USDA, and L. W. HUDSON, horticulturist

Abstract

The inheritance of lentil seedcoat mottle was studied in the F1, F2 and F3 generations following reciprocal crosses between homozygous unrelated plants. Under conditions of this test, we concluded that seedcoat patterns are caused by two gene pairs, both lacking dominance, acting to produce segregation in seedcoats from non-mottled black through gradations of mottled to non-mottled beige.
