XXY-trisomy identified by banding techniques in a male tortoiseshell cat

The authors are affiliated with the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, S-750 07 Uppsala 7, Sweden. They wish to thank veterinarian Anna Maria Kullenberg for bringing this male tortoiseshell cat to their attention and Mrs. Annelie Akesson, its owner, for allowing them to take tissue biopsies.

Abstract

A male tortoiseshell cat has been chromo-somally analyzed by applying G-, Q- and R-banding techniques. The chromosome count was 39 and the sex chromosome constitution was demonstrated to be XXY including one X with a late DNA replication pattern.
