Abstract

The inheritance of two chlorophyll mutants in soybean lines T134 and T162 was studied by observing the F2 and F3 generations of T134 X Clark-k and T162 X Clark-k crosses. The results showed that the chlorophyll deficiences of T13A and T162 are each controlled by a single recessive gene. T134 and T162 were crossed with other viable chlorophyll-deficient lines from the USDA Soybean Type Collection. All crosses produced ratios of normal and chlorophyll-deficient phenotypes with the exception of T134 + T116, which produced only chlorophyll-deficient F1 and F2 plants. Apparently, chlorophyll deficiency in T162 is caused by a single recessive gene differing from all previously reported genes. We have assigned the symbol y17 to it. T134 appears to carry the recessive y5 gene reported in T116.
