Mutagenic evaluation of two male contraceptives: 5-thio-D-glucose and gossypol acetic acid

Abstract

Two potential male contraceptives, 5-thio-D-glucose and gossypol acetic acid, were evaluated for mutagenic effects with the Ames Samonella-micro-some test. Several concentrations of each chemical were used and none showed mutagenic activity in any of the four tester strains of S. typhimurium in either the presence or absence of rat liver homogenates (S-9).
