Abstract

Meiotic chromosomes of the boll weevil have been analyzed by light and electron microscopes. Preliminary evidence indicates that the karotype consists of 20 bivatents and a trivalent in both lab-reared and wild insects. We suggest that the bivalent represents an association of the X1, X2, and Y chromosomes.
