Abstract
Omithogalum virens (Llliaceae; 2n = 6) is a useful plant species for teaching mitosis and meiosis, as well as other aspects of cytology. The chromosomes are few in number and are large enough to be visible with high-dry microscope objectives and even with objectives as low-powered as x 15. All stages of mitosis and melosis are easily stained by commonly used procedures for rendering chromosomes visible.
