A program for estimating genetic variability within and between populations

Thomas E. Dowling, and William S. Moore

Department of Biological Sciences, Wayne State University Detroit, Michigan 48202

Abstract

A computer program is described that calculates average heterozygosity, Nei's estimates of genetic identity and distance, their standard errors, and Rogers's coefficients of similarity and distance. The program is in Apple-soft (tm) BASIC and has been tested on Apple II plus (tm) and Apple lie (tm) computers. The program is sufficient for the computation of average heterozygosities and genetic distances for most electrophoretic studies.
