Dominant flightless mutant of Drosophila melanogaster

Glen E. Collier, and Cathy Finke

Department of Biological Sciences, Illinois State University Normal, IL 61761

Abstract

A dominant, autosomal flightless mutant, Stuck-up (Stp), is located at 2-52.2 ± .05. It is so named for the way in which it holds its wings when agitated. The insertional duplication Dp (2:Y) H1 was used to localize the mutant to region 36B4-36C2-4 as well as to vary gene dosage. The mutant results in abnormal thoracic flight muscles whenever it is present. It apparently represents one of several loci affecting flight muscle structure that are clustered in this region.
