High frequency of cosmopolitan inversions in natural populations of Drosophila ananassae from Kerala, South India
Department of Zoology, Banaras Hindu University Varanasi 221 005, India
Abstract
Four natural populations of Drosophila ananassae from Kerala, South India were screened for chromosome inversions. Three cosmopolitan inversions were detected during the present study. The chromosomes with invested gene orders occur with high frequency. The level of inversion heterozygosity does not vary between populations, although the frequency of different gene orders shows some variations between populations.
