Abstract
Interchromosomel connections are frequently revealed in the legume, Lathyrus sylvegtris, In cold arrested somatIc metaphase dif ferentially staIned with Glemsa. Such preparations allow the identification of individual chromosomes as well as the lnterchromosomal associations in different homologous and nonhomologous chromosomes. Based on actual physical contacts between the different chromosomes, data have been recorded on somatic associations. The analysis of data reveals the frequency of occw rence of homologous associations to be more (nearly three times) than would be expected by chance. The study explicitly demonstrates the occurrence of homologous somatic association in L. sylvestris and suggests the index of interchromosomal connections as a parameter for recording somatic associations.
