Polypioidy in Phalaenopsis orchid improvement

Abstract
The use of naturally occurring unreduced gametes and of artificially induced polyploidy has increased the fertility of triploid Phalaenopsis orchids. The fertile hexaploids may be used in a breeding program to improve flower quality.
