Abstract

The article, "Mutant allele frequencies in rural Wisconsin cats," by Sylvia J. Kerr appearing in the May—June 1984 issue of the Journal of Heredity (75:203–206) contains incorrect information owing to errors made by the author in processing field notes.

When data were assembled for publication, some orange cats were improperly tallied at the agouti locus and omitted at the tabby locus. In addition, some sibling groups were inadvertently included when phenotypes were tabulated. All data have now been completely revised, and kittens have been excluded from the population data, in keeping with accepted practice. The correct phenotypic and mutant allele frequencies are presented in the accompanying table.

The St. Paul, Minnesota mutant allele frequencies appearing in Table IV of the same article and portions of the discussion related to them should be disregarded. New data for the Twin Cities metropolitan area soon will be available. Table IV also should be corrected to read: Champaign: a = 0.78; Cleveland: d = 0.41; Boston: l = 0.32; and New York: d = 0.44. Significant differences between the phenotypic proportions of Wisconsin and other cat populations are changed in 12 cases now that Polk County data have been corrected.

Revised versions of other previously published tables are available from the author upon request.
