Abstract
A recombination map of the cotton genome was constructed based on chiasma frequencies in chromosome regions defined by the breakpoints in 58 reciprocal chromosome transiocations. Total lengths of 50 arms were estimated in recombination units, and the arm locations and distances from the centromeres of 115 breakpoints were mapped. The breakpoints appear to be distributed between the Ah and Dh genomes in proportion to the relative amounts of DNA in each genome. However, the proximal clustering of breakpoints on the map suggests that there is a tendency for one chiasma per arm to be localized distally. Additional chiasmata may be more randomly distributed.
