Drosophila of Southern California: III. Gene arrangements of Drosophila persimilis

Betty C. Moore, and Charles E. Taylor

The authors are affiliated, respectively, with the Department of Biology, University of California, Riverside, CA 92521; and the Department of Biology, University of California, Los Angeles, CA 90024. They wish to thank Dr. Andrew T. Beckenbach, Simon Fraser University, for supplying homozygous strains of the Klamath and Cowichan gene arrangements. The work was assisted greatly by Intramural Research Funds granted by the University of California, Riverside Committee on Research.

Abstract

Photographic maps of the five chromosomes of Drosophila persimills are shown. Photographs of the principal gene arrangements of the third chromosome of D. persimills are given in their homozygous and heterozygous configurations. A key to these is presented, and an updated phylogeny is shown. How to distinguish D. persimills chromosomes from those of D. pseudoobscura is discussed, and photographs illustrating the differences are presented.
