Distribution of constitutive heterochromatin in the collared scops owl
Department of Zoology, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar-751 004, India.
Abstract
The karyotype study with C-banding analyses has been done for the first time in the collared scops owl, Otus bakkamoena (2n = 78±). In all macroautosomes pericentromeric heterochromatin (C-bands) has been localized. The Z chromosome is devoid of C-bands while the W chromosome has been found to be totally heterochromatic. Possible karyological relationships among congeneric and confamilial forms are discussed and it is evident that O. bakkamoena represents the original karyotype of the family Strigidae.
