Abstract
The genetic control of two mechanisms of 2n egg formationomission of the second meiotic division and failure of cylokinesis after the second meiotic divisionwas determined in 2x haploid-wild species hybrids of potato. Crossability data and cytological analysis of progeny obtained from intercrosses among parental clones, intercrosses among their F1 hybrids, crosses to testers, and crosses between testers indicated single-locus contral of each mechanism. Test for allelism indicated the two mutant genes are not allelic. The simple genetic control of 2n egg formation has significant implication in the evolution of polyploids and in the develpment of new breeding methods for potatoes.
