High-Resolution G-Banding of Sheep Chromosomes

H. M. Kaftanovskaya, and O. L. Serov

Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Siberian Department Novosibirsk, U.S.S.R.

Abstract

Application of the Giemsa-trypsin method to elongated sheep chromosomes allowed us to discriminate about 500 bands. Descriptions of the G-banded patterns focused on the main identifying features of all the chromosomes, particularly 4 and 6, 9 and 10, 19 and 20, and 21, 24, and 26. An ideogram of sheep chromosomes was constructed based on detailed examination of chromosomes at different levels of condensation.
