The Cover. The cover art shows red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus) chicks from the UCD 001 genetic line along with mitotic prometaphase chromosomes; chromosome 16 is identified by multicolor probes which were used to resolve order of the NOR, MHC-Y and MHC-B complexes (see Delany et al. pp 507–154). The red jungle fowl is the monophyletic ancestor for the domesticated chicken breeds (Gallus domesticus) and DNA from one UCD 001 female (#256) was utilized for the genome sequencing project (ICGSC 2004).
