The cover. General type of biological setting for many of the case studies analyzed in the symposium "DNA-Based Profiling of Mating Systems and Reproductive Behaviors in Poikilothermic Vertebrates," whose proceedings appear in this issue. Discrete nests in nature, each with numerous embryos of ten associated with particular adults, were typically the subject of genetic appraisals. Molecular information on maternity and paternity for multiple clutches, particularly when integrated with field observations, has offered novel perspectives on the mating systems and reproductive ecology in natural populations of diverse species of fishes, amphibians, and reptiles.
