The cover. The unicellular dinoflagellate Warnowia possesses a highly differentiated photoreceptor organelle consisting of a cornea-like and a lens-like structure, a pigment cup, and a retina-like layer of stacked membranes, all assembled in single cell, which ressembles a multicellular camera-type eye in higher organisms.
